KA MOʻOLELO O HOʻOMALUHIA - OUR STORY

AS TOLD BY OUR FOUNDER

I was sitting peacefully one evening at a Women's Conference, when her name came to me...I felt her name.  I placed my hands over my opu, a way to embrace my growing baby. On December 7, 2008 I spoke her name aloud, "Ho'omaluhia."  She brought peace & love to my life that I never knew existed, before becoming her mommy.

Art has always been a positive extension of my true self throughout my life.  I have fond memories of elementary school teachers, who gave me opportunities to express through art.  As a junior in high school, I was encouraged by my kumu Mr. Beckett to share my love of writing in writing competitions.  In 1998, I was awarded a cash prize for a writing piece, written in Hawaiian about David Malo.  This allowed me the opportunity to travel to Kaho'olawe.  It was there, one night under the blackened sky lit by a multitude of stars, the destiny of becoming a kumu was revealed to me.

After graduating from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, I started my teaching career at Kamaile Elementary School in Wai'anae, on the island of O'ahu. I received my Master's Degree in May 2007, and got married the following month.  My Ho'omaluhia was on her way to me... as time flowed forward... to me becoming her mama.

My love of art was reignited in December 2015.  I had complications from surgeries the previous year, and underwent surgery again.  The day after surgery, I started painting.  As each stroke of the brush touched my canvas, I felt P.E.A.C.E.

My recovery was phenomenal.  Ke Akua's love guided me to create through painting; it was part of my path of healing.  I initially shared my artwork with family and close friends, who encouraged me to continue to share with others.

I started this business Ho'omaluhia in February 2016, only to participated in a few craft fairs over the year.  During that time, I struggled with some obstacles, that could have extinguished my belief of having a growing family.

I created this piece to represent my 'ohana...our kalo.  The middle lau are my blessings from my husband, and their birth mother.  The 'oha - my Ho'omaluhia, and two more keiki I longed for.

When I finally let go, released and trusted that I would have the desires of my heart, my Ho'omaluhia became a big tita to our twin daughters in August 2017.

My destiny story of becoming a kumu... a makuahine... is part of the legacy for my future wahine.  I look forward to walking this P.E.A.C.E.FULL path with you!

MAHALO FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ ABOUT OUR PAST, BEING PRESENT IN OUR PRESENT, AND PART OF THE LEGACY FOR OUR FUTURE.

Kahealani Paogofie,

NO KUʻU HULU KAIKAMAHINE, E LILO I MAU WAHINE KUPAIANAHA.
